Pixels & Shutters
So I'll never be the next George Lucas. But when live performance came to a halt, I started to experiment with producing my own short films. At first, I used an iPhone SE with a special filming app and stabilizer. Later, I splurged on a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera with 4k resolution and Raw video capture, plus a Panasonic Leica zoom lens. I always loved the magic of film, with its ability to fully immerse viewers in storytelling (just like opera, ballet, or theater). And I quickly found my niche in musical performance videos with a narrative twist -- be it filming in a special location, exploring the history behind a piece, or simply finding new ways to capture classical performance. I am deeply grateful to Boston Ballet, MacPhail Center for Music, and the Minnesota Bach Ensemble for giving me the opportunity to conceive and produce various video productions over the past two years, with still more to come.
